The Baby Quail’s Protection

By the power of this Paritta, the forest fire passed over the great being who had been reborn as a quail while he was fulfilling the perfections for Buddhahood.

This Discourse was delivered by the Lord of the World to Venerable Sariputta.
It lasts for the entire world cycle and it possesses great power.
Oh, noble ones! Let us recite this Paritta now.

In the world, there is the quality of virtue,
truth, purity and compassion.
I, according with truth,
shall make an unsurpassed truth-asseveration.

Reflecting on the power of Dhammā,
and calling to mind the conquerors of the past,
depending on thispower of truth.
I made a truth asseveration:

“Here are wings that do not fly,
which do not walk,
and mother and father have gone out Jataveda the fire: Go back!”

This act of mine I made with truth.
The great crested flames avoided sixteen lengths of land,
like fire that has to water reached.
For truth my equal there is not.
This is my perfection of truth.
