Dasa-sīla

Ten Precepts

1. I undertake to observe the precept of abstaining from killing.

2. I undertake to observe the precept of abstaining from stealing [taking that which is not given].

3. I undertake to observe the precept of abstaining from any form of sexual act.

4. I undertake to observe the precept of abstaining from false speech.

5. I undertake to observe the precept of abstaining from liquor, alcohol or intoxicants which becloud the mind.

6. I undertake to observe the precept of abstaining from taking [solid] food after midday.

7. I undertake to observe the precept of abstaining from participating in or witnessing dancing, singing, instrumental music performance, unseemly shows or sights.

8. I undertake to observe the precept of abstaining from wearing garlands or using perfumes, embellishment adornments or beautifying accessories.

9. I undertake to observe the precept of abstaining from [using] high and luxurious furniture, [e.g. couches, etc.].

10. I undertake to observe the precept of abstaining from accepting gold and silver.
